about mr. stanley
This is my 25th year teaching and my 20th year as a teacher in the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation. I began my teaching career in Florida in 1998 as a fifth grade teacher. Since then I have taught second, third, fourth, fifth grade and sixth grade. This is my eighth year at Clark-Pleasant Middle School.
I believe that the impact of a teacher is unparalleled. A teacher has the unique opportunity and responsibility to inspire, challenge, change, and mold lives. I chose teaching as my profession because I believe that I can make a difference in the lives of children, our future.
I am the product of a family of educators. My father retired as an elementary teacher after thirty-seven years. My mother and step-mother retired after thirty years of teaching at the high-school level. In retirement, my mother and stepmother remain active members of the community through volunteer work. I was raised by parents who found value in service to society.
Though I did not take a direct route to a career of teaching, I eventually discovered the value of service that my parents instilled in me. At the age of twenty-nine, I left a financially stable job to return to school to become a teacher. Since that decision, my life has been truly touched. I have grown not only as a teacher, but also as a father of four beautiful children. The past few years in my career have been especially rewarding for me. I have enjoyed some of my favorite classes, worked for a wonderful principal, and shared the experience with student-teachers.
To meet the needs of students, I believe that I must continue to grow professionally. I have decided that I will remain in the classroom because of the direct impact that I have on students. Therefore, I have completed a master’s program in Curriculum and Instruction.
Preparing the student for today means that I am preparing them for the world that they will enter tomorrow. It is my responsibility to be an instrument that will make a difference in the lives of children by planning lessons to arouse curiosity, by encouraging students to interact with one another, by teaching tolerance for different points of view, by teaching students problem solving skills in preparation for adult lives, and pushing the students to a higher level of knowledge. My role is to prepare tomorrow’s leaders to contribute productively in an increasingly dynamic world.
